Spinning!
Well, I have been trying my hand at spinning my own wool over the past week, and so I thought I would share the results with you! I bought myself a kit off ebay which included a drop spindle, and 4 different coloured rovings. I found the spinning quite difficult at first, but i soon got into the swing of it (still a very slow process for me, I have to keep stopping the spindle all the time). It was quite good fun though, and this is the end process...

I decided to mix up all the colours quite a lot, and i can't wait to see how it looks when I knit it up! There isn't much there however so I'm a bit unsure what to knit it into!

Circular Shrug
So - I finally finished a project! And here it is...

and a view of the back...
I originally bought this yarn to knit a shrug to go with a lovely dress I have, and was going to wear it to a wedding. However, I felt that the circular shrug was a bit chunky for the dress... having seen it on though, I think it might go afterall - what do you think??

What I'm up to...
I am currently getting excited by a number of different projects that I hope to try soon - and I will photograph each of them when I can, and if I ever start/finish them, but in the spirit of keeping this blog going (just in case anyone is looking at it!) then I thought I should write something! The projects are as follows:
1. My current WIP - I decided to try knitting the circular shrug (the pattern can be found on various blogs - but also here - http://www.geocities.com/julsey723/circular_shrug.pdf its such a simple pattern, and measured to fit! I hope it works out well. I am knitting it on the magenta cotton which is pictured in an earlier post, and have doubled it up so that it knits quickly. I'm knitting on 5mm circular needles - which I am really enjoying and seeing the benefits of with bigger projects! I hope to post a picture of this very soon - both halfway through and when finished!
2. I am expecting some wool to be delivered soon, which is for another shrug. This time crocheted. Its the pattern taken from Simply Knitting Magazine, and it looks really delicate and lovely. The wool I have ordered is in a lovely dusky pink colour, and the wool has sparkly bits in it to make it that little bit extra special.
3. I'm getting quite excited about the idea of a) spinning my own wool and b) dyeing my own wool. I think I will probably try dyeing my own wool first - this can apprently be done through the soft drink which is known as Kool-Aid (I think it is american). A quick google of this will tell you all you need to know about the process. I am really quite looking forward to it! I must try it and take lots of pictures to put on here.
4. I have signed up on the waiting list for ravelry - the knitting and crochet community site. It looks really good - apparently, when it is finished you will be able to look up a type of wool, and then gather inspiration from pieces that other people have made! Sounds wonderful to me - I hope that it works.
Anyway - thats about all I have to say for today! Bye bye knit-wits!

Finished Something Today!
I am quite proud of this! I decided to make a handbag this week - as I am off work using up some spare annual leave and needed something to occupy me.
I started this yesterday and finished it today - I think that it looks quite funky! Plus my other handbag got a bit ruined last week when I was caught out in the rain - so I was in need of one.
Look I even lined it and everything - and put a sneaky pocket on the inside!
OK - so its not knitting - but it was definitely a project!

My WIPs (work in progress)
I currently have more WIPs than this - but these are the ones that came easily to hand when I was taking the photos!
OK so this is my most recent wip - and is probably one of the more challenging things that I have decided to make! I need a bolero jacket to go with a posh dress that I will be wearing to a wedding (or two!) this year. I decided it would be fun to try and make one, but I have got quite a fixed picture in my mind of what I want it to look like, and I can't find any patterns. I have decided I am going to experiment and see what I come up with! This is the wool I am using and the beginnings of a 'tester' square for me to work out how many stitches i will need.

The next thing that I have been working on is another handbag - a stripey hobo style crocheted one, which I originally took the pattern from 'Simply Knitting' magazine. I kept wondering if I had made it too big, restarted it twice, and haven't touched it since - its a shame really as I got quite far with it!
I started this baby blanket 6 months ago when I found out that one of our friends was pregnant, as you can see it still hasn't been finished! Oh well, I have another friend who is due later on - I guess I might be finished for that!

I plan to make it 3 squares across and 4 up, and then crochet an edge onto it to complete it when I have sewn them all together.

Last Years Creations (that were actually finished!)
So, I made this handbag last year. I crocheted the outside using a dk crochet cotton, and then I lined the bag using some fluffy material I found in the bargain basement bin at the local fabric shop. I bought the handles. Its quite a small, but I kind of like it - its alooking a little grubby now though, as its been used quite a lot.

The next thing that I made was this Christmas. We do a 'secret santa' every year at work, and this year I got the Head of Department, Mark as the person to buy a present for - we had a limit of just £3 with instruction to make it as stupid as possible! So I decided to go to a wool shop and get some cheap wool, I already had a load of black wool left over from another project (which was never finished!!). I then knocked out a hat in just over a day... and I was at work for most of that day...! I didn't use a pattern, just made it up as I went along, he seemed genuinely pleased that someone actually went to the trouble of making him something, and recently emailed some pictures round work of him wearing it on Christmas day on their traditional christmas walk! Anyway, enough chatting about it - here is a picture of him wearing it.
